In December 2007, Rabbi Jacobs
and his wife Rachel celebrated the birth of their
first child - Avraham Aharon.
Before coming back to the UK, Rabbi Jacobs was
studying in the States for seven years where he
was enrolled in a post graduate course after gaining
his Semicha and Bachelors
degree at the very young age of 21. Rabbi Jacobs
began his career at the early age of 15 when he
led the entire Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur service
for the Newton Mearns Hebrew congregation.
His first official
position was at the age of 22 ministering to the
Netherlee and Clarkston Hebrew congregation for
six months whilst they were searching for their
new Rabbi. This made him one of the youngest serving
Rabbis in the Country. After being offered the
full time position, Rabbi Jacobs turned it down
and chose to go back to studying in the US.
After meeting his wife Rachel
in New York, they married and settled there whilst
Rabbi Jacobs studied in Kollel. Upon receiving
the call from Singers Hill Rabbi and Rebitzen
Jacobs arrived here just over a year ago and have
been responsible, for the revival of regular children
services and Yomtov parties, educational programs
for all ages as well as hospitality and activities
for the entire community. His warmth and interpersonal
skills have allowed him to bring the Shul together
and help Rabbi Tann continue to strengthen the
community.
Rabbi Jacobs is a graduate of
the Calderwood Lodge primary school, Manchester
Jewish Grammar School, and Lubavitch Yeshivas
in Toronto, Miami, New Haven, Los Angeles, and
New York.
Rebbitzen Rachel Jacobs who hails
from Los Angeles has brought an enormous amount
of warmth and enthusiasm to Singers Hill. Her
weekly Ladies Shiur is very popular and is attended
by members of all Shuls. Her great cooking and
hospitality is becoming renowned and her talent
with children is making her the pied piper of
Birmingham. Rebbitzen Jacobs works full time for
the Shul and assists her husband in many programs
as well as teaching in the Cheder. Together they
have just launched a new program “Teen Scene”
for teens which is attracting teenagers from Birmingham,
Cardiff, Leicester, and Nottingham.
Before arriving in the UK, Rebbitzen
Jacobs was a teacher in the Beth Rivka High School
where she taught English and the Retzad Elementary
school where she taught Judaic studies. She has
been the head leader and coordinator of Gan Israel
Day camps in New Jersey, New Orleans, Los Angeles,
and Upstate New York. She has organized an international
conference for teenagers worldwide which attracted
2000 people.
She is a graduate of the
Toras Emes Elementary school, the Beis Chana high
school, and the Beth Rivka Seminary where she
received a teaching diploma and certificate.
